WHO IS IN CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE? (PART 4)
“But until a person can say deeply and honestly, ‘I am what I am today because of the choices I made yesterday’ that person cannot say, ‘I choose otherwise’.”
- STEPHEN COVEY.
You are who you are, what you are, and where you are today because of the daily decisions you made in the past. Tomorrow’s experiences will be the outcome of today’s choices.
Consequently, your choices are continually shaping the outcome of your everyday life. From our waking moments to our night rest we make innumerable decisions. But although we are bombarded with choices every moment of our lives, there still remain a few decisions of which we have no control but we can control our responses to them and determine the outcome.
We cannot choose our background or who our parents are, but we can choose what we become in our lives. We cannot choose our physical attributes, but we can choose and shape our personality.
We cannot choose our nationality or race, but we can choose our sphere of influence. We have never been able to choose our temperament or our talents, but we can choose to develop them into a masterpiece.
We cannot choose people’s opinion of us, but we can choose the opinion we have of ourselves. Neither can we choose people’s attitude towards us, but we can choose how we respond to them. We could not choose our upbringing, but we can certainly choose our upshot.
We cannot choose what the weather will be, but we can choose our feelings about the day. We may not be able to choose all our circumstances or conditions, but we can choose what we can do about them.
We are able to choose our actions, but we are not free to choose the consequences of those actions. And all in all, our choices determine our chances in life.
To take charge of your life intentionally choose the thoughts you think; the mental images you visualize; the words you verbalize; and the actions you materialize.
To achieve that you may need to change your choice of friends; what you read or feed your mind on; choose to engage in positive thinking and disengage from negative thinking; choose to change your habits – the secret to creating the life you want to lead is hidden in your daily agenda or what you daily); choose to change the way you talk – what you say and how you say it; choose to change what you fantasize or day dream about; choose to change your response to the events that you encounter daily.
Strive not to permit your response to be on autopilot or conditioned reflexes – intentionally choose your response in order to create the outcome you require.
Alcoholics Anonymous define insanity as “continuing the same behavior and expecting a different result”. Absurd isn’t it?
Therefore, to take control of your life, take charge of your daily choices – change your choices to create success chances for a change.
Consider the words of Jack Canfield,
“You are the one who ate the junk food.
You are the one who didn’t say no!
You are the one who took the job.
You are the one who stayed on the job.
You are the one who choose to believe them.
You are the one who ignored your intuition.
You are the one who abandoned your dream.
You are the one who bought it.
You are the one who didn’t take care of it.
You are the one who decided you had to do it alone.
You are the one who trusted him.
You are the one who said yes to the dogs.”
Within you lies the power to change your life and take charge of your destiny – the power of choice.
