Could you ever imagine that a death sentence could be transformed into a life-sentence by taking on vacation? Let’s uncover the amazing story of Edward L. Trudeau.

Edward Trudeau was afflicted with tuberculosis involving two-thirds of his left lung. The doctor told him that he had only 6 months to live. Trudeau accepted his fate but decided to take a trip to the Adirondacks to rest and relax in the hunting lodge of a friend. His doctor advised him against going on the trip, stating that it will only draw him closer to his death. But he replied, “The end is inevitable”.  He arrived at his destination feeling feverish and fatigued with a consistent cough.

   

Miraculously, as the days rolled by Trudeau regained his health as he breathed in deeply the mountains fresh air. Realizing that he was healthy he decided to go back home.

During his stay at home, he became sick again. He decided to go back again for a vacation in the mountains. During his stay in the mountains, his body revived and he was healthy once again. Trudeau stated that he engaged in “Snowballing, reading, painting, telegraphing, playing cards, hunting, fishing through the ice for trout.” He really had fun.Series of question started arising in Trudeau’s mind, “Did tuberculosis need to be a death sentence? Could the tubercular find healing help in the clean, fresh air, rest and careful regimented living?” His family came over to live with him in the mountains for 6 years.

All through their stay in the mountains, he was robust with health and he regained his normal weight. Trudeau lived for many more years and positively impacted hundreds of thousands of lives through his medical research on tuberculosis.

This illumining story proves that rest is valuable for a healthy and energized body.

Indeed, rest saves health.

LIFE’S LESSONS TO LIVE BY:

  • The moment of relaxation is when the body and mind are eased from every voluntary work and stress. It is the state of clearing the mind from all negativity and releasing your mind and body to rest.
  • The recommended sleep time should be 7 or 8 hours daily.
  • Never take the challenges of life to bed-keep the mind free and peaceful.
  • During a period of relaxation, the body is repaired, replenished and restored for optimum performance.
