MENTAL DIET: How To Create Empowering Life’s Values (Part 3)

Values are the foundation of our character and of our confidence. A person who does not know what he stands for or what he should stand for will never enjoy true happiness and success.” – Lionel Kendrick.
If you don’t know your priorities, you will live moment by moment in utter confusion and constant stress. What you stand for and what you live for set your priorities, and your priorities set you up for progress. Who you are reflects in what is most important to you in shaping your daily decisions. To live a heart-centered life, you must live a value-driven life rather than being driven by your feelings.
There are two kinds of values:
- The values that govern your everyday conduct or behavior
- The values that set your life’s priorities.
Our lives are made or marred by what we stand for and what we do not stand for. In essence, our convictions make us who we are.
The meaning of life is either defined or defied by our values system. When we honor positive and empowering values in our lives, we elevate the quality of our lives from the inside out.
Living with integrity is only evident when what you stand for, your beliefs, and goals are in alignment or harmony – you become unstoppable. When positive and empowering beliefs, founded on timeless principles, are dishonored, stress infiltrates and builds up within.
Identifying what’s most important to you helps you to become aware of what you stand for and what your beliefs are, and how you choose to behave in any given situation.
- Identify Your Core Values
How To Identify Your Core Values:
If you had only 6 months to live, what would be most important to you? What would you do with the life you have left?
- Identify the core values that govern your everyday conduct or behavior
- -What are the qualities you require to become the kind of person you want to be?
- What are the qualities or traits that you require to accomplish or fulfill your dreams, mission, vision, or your life’s purpose?
- Who do you admire?
- Why do you admire them?
- What qualities do you admire most in others?
“Show me the person you honor, for I know better by that kind of person you are, for you show me what your idea of humanity is”- Thomas Carlyle.
Examples of Values that govern everyday conduct or behavior include: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
- The Values That Set Your Life’s Priorities:
- What are the most important aspects of your life? What are the areas of your life that shouldn’t be neglected or ignored in creating a balanced and wholesome success? What are the areas of your life that, if ignored or neglected, would result in a crisis even if you smash all your goals and make it to the “top” of your dreams or the space you love?
Examples of Values that set your life’s priorities are:
Spirituality or God, health, family, career, finances, Community enrichment or contribution…
- Organize Your Values:
- List your values in the order of their importance from the most important to the least important.
- Choose your top 10 in life’s values in each category that reflect what you require as a basis to govern your everyday conduct or behavior, and those values that set your life’s priorities. Rank them on a scale of 1-10
You set what you stand for and invariably what you live for, and that sets the course of your life and causes the outcome of your life.
